IN THE BEGINNING

In 2007, before Techland Houston emerged as its own entity, Bright Star Productions was operating out of a 10,000-square-foot warehouse in Houston’s Rice Village. At that time, we were grappling with significant growth, and our production team had reached full capacity with little room for expansion. To support our expanding shows and events, we needed more equipment and staff, but our facility was already maxed out. Thus began our search for a new location.
When relocating, it was crucial for us to find a space with room for future expansion. We had long contemplated expanding in ways that aligned with our existing products and services. After numerous discussions—mostly held in the company kitchen or our neighborhood bar and grill—we realized that a supply store providing the daily necessities of our industry would greatly benefit us and Houston’s theatrical community.
EXPANSION TIME
Like you, we’ve faced the challenge of needing last-minute, locally available items. In the theater business, unforeseen changes often demand equipment and supplies that aren’t typically stocked. These situations would sometimes leave us in a tough spot, so we aimed to alleviate this stress by keeping specialty items readily available.
We found an old furniture warehouse in Houston’s historic Washington Corridor that was ideal for our needs. This space was perfect not only for our theatrical production company but also for setting up a supply store. Our passion for theater drove us to use this new space to offer high-quality products across various areas, including costuming, makeup, set design, and prop building. Beyond just supplying products, we planned to offer workshops, technical support, manufacturer forums, and other resources to build strong relationships with our customers. Thus, Techland Houston was born.
TODAY

Techland Houston now operates just outside downtown Houston, adjacent to the nation’s second-largest theater district. Our facility has grown into Houston’s largest resource for scenic, audio-visual, cosplay, and costuming supplies. Spanning 66,000 square feet, we provide a wide range of services, including audio-visual system design and installation, scenic curtains, stage rigging, prop-making supplies, special effects makeup, prosthetics, and more. We also stock expendables for the dance and architectural industries and host many training seminars throughout the year under the TechlandU banner in our new demonstration space. This space is also available for product comparisons, trade meetings, and design sessions.
